A career in finance like no other
MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you’ll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.
In this role, you’ll gain hands on experience across the core financial processes that keep MI5 running. From processing invoices and supporting Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activity, to reconciling bank statements and resolving queries with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll play a key part in ensuring our financial operations run smoothly. It’s a role that’s full and varied, giving you exposure to finance work you simply won’t find anywhere else.
You’ll receive structured training and on the job learning from day one, helping you build strong foundations in Payments & Banking. With the support of your line manager, colleagues and an engaged finance community, you’ll develop confidence using our systems and processes. And if you want to progress your professional qualifications, you’ll have the opportunity to work towards the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) with our support. With plenty of development opportunities available, you’ll have the freedom to shape your future in finance.
So what about you? You’ll have five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above (including English Language and Maths, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications), as well as being confident using Microsoft Word and Excel. Whatever your background, you’ll be organised, proactive and collaborative – someone who enjoys problem solving, handling information accurately and delivering excellent service in a fast paced environment. You don’t need experience in a financial setting; what matters is your motivation to build a career in finance and your enthusiasm for working with and learning from others.
You’ll bring integrity, respect and creativity to your work, helping us deliver a positive impact across the UK. You don’t need to be a certain ‘type’ of person to work here: we need all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds to protect the UK. That means we value your individuality and what makes you, you.
At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment and diversity on our website.
To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You can apply at the age of 17 years, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Full eligibility details can be found on our website. |
