The role of Technician is instrumental to our Mechanical Engineering Student Workshop. You will be a part of motivating others to push boundaries and will have the opportunity to continuously learn in collaboration with our students and researchers.
About the department:
Based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, you will be joining multi-skilled technicians who provide technical support to both teaching and research in the Department. The department along with Technicians provided PPE during the pandemic demonstrating our ethos of using engineering for good.
Our team is also responsible for supporting undergraduate teaching sessions, numerous student competition teams and a wide range of research activities. The team also provide skills in welding/fabrication in steel, stainless steel and aluminium together with bench fitting and assembly.
About the role:
The role requires use of conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes) with the opportunity to progress onto CNC machine tools, where training would be provided. You will support students and academics by inducting them into the workshop and supervising their activity. You will also support the Final Year Competition Teams and Final Year project students with component manufacture and provide guidance on design work.
You will encourage a diverse student pool to be creative and become the next generation of engineers.
About you:
You will need to enjoy engaging with students and staff of all backgrounds with different levels. You will also have:
Relevant qualifications at GCSE level and City and Guilds or equivalent or experience working in a relevant field
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Experience of contributing to the scoping, planning and delivery of simple and more complex projects
Experience of being responsible for safe working practices
