Hi I'm new to this site, and hopefully you might be able to give me some advice?.
i have ulcerated colitis, and I have just had a bad flare up, which I had to spend 3 months off work. I was told last night by a friend that i should register with DDA, because if I'm reg i won't have my colitis ill days off from work on my sick record.
How do I reg with the DDA, and is there anything else you might be able to help me with.
Thankyou.
Tony.

Sadly you cannot register with the DDA, they have no office. the DDA is a set of rules and regulations which your employer must use to help you stay in work.

Once upon a time a disabled person could register with his or her council disabled, this has now gone, and your unable to register anymore not that it helped much anyway.

You need to explain to your employer your suffering an illness, also tell your union if you have one.

The DDA means your employer has to look at means of helping you stay in employment by doing what ever they can to help you.

The regulations state an employer has a duty under the DDA to look at ways of keeping you in employment, sadly it also says at reasonable cost.

But on the whole it has helped many of people, because if they fail to carry out the DDA the tribunal with come down hard.
