Posted - 16/12/2010 : 17:12:43 I work for Northumbria Police as a member of the police Staff and i have been told that i cannot return to my old job as a detention officer because of the risk of damaging my hip. Several police officers in the force have had hip operations and have been allowed back on front line duties which means they could damage thier hips They have given me 3 months to find a new job in the force at a time when they are making 450 police staff redundant is this discrimination

Posted - 17/12/2010 : 09:31:31 The Police officers association, the disabled police officers group all have contacts within the Police force, you should now be asking them why your being told to find another job, it's up to the Police to offer you other positions, again it's that problem of reasonable adjustments, saying that you might be hurt doing this job is not a good enough reason. For god sake a New Hip would not be a reason not to work unless you have problems associated with the hip. People with new hips tend to play contact sports within disability.
I would again demand a review, you are a Police officer i take it so you have the Police federation, get them involved, the Police must have a HR within the station see them and ask what are they going to do to help you stay in work.
